Skill Exchange Framework

A skill exchange lets community members share expertise with each other — volunteering time, teaching skills, or collaborating on projects.

Adapted from the IrregularChat Community Skills Exchange.

  1. Members post what skills they can offer
  2. Members browse available skills and reach out
  3. Exchanges happen directly between members
  4. The community benefits from shared expertise

Share this template with your community. Members fill it out and post to your forum, wiki, or shared document:

## Available for: [Your Skills]
(e.g., "Web development, facilitation training, grant writing")
### Location
[City/Country] or Remote
### What I Can Help With
Describe the skills or services you can provide.
### Availability
When are you available?
(e.g., "Weekday evenings EST," "Weekends only," "Flexible")
### Experience (Optional)
Brief background or qualifications.
### What I'm Looking For (Optional)
Skills you'd like to learn from the community.
### Contact
Preferred method (forum DM, email, Signal, etc.)

Don’t build a platform. A shared document or forum thread works fine.

Remind members the exchange exists. Feature a “skill of the month” or highlight a successful exchange.

The best exchanges go both ways. Encourage members to offer and request.

Periodically ask: “Has anyone used the skill exchange recently? How did it go?”
